Netherlands- Florida Scholarship Foundation

 

 

The Program

 

The Netherlands-Florida Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) is a non-profit organization. The objective of the Foundation is to promote the mutual understanding of the American and Dutch culture by enabling American students to spend a semester at a Dutch university and Dutch students to spend a semester at a university in South Florida. The funds for the scholarships derive from the proceeds of the Oranje Open Golf Tournament (www.oranjeopen.com). NSFS was established at the initiative of the Netherlands Association of South Florida (www.Dutchclub.com).

 

 

Eligibility

 

Students working on a final project towards a Bachelors degree, a Masters theses, a PhD dissertation or comparable activity. Students should not be older than 35 years. Dutch students should be enrolled in a Dutch institution of higher learning (HBO or University). American students should have roots in South Florida and be enrolled in Florida Atlantic University, University of Miami, Florida  International University, St Thomas University, Barry University or Nova University.

 

General information

 

For the year 2006 two scholarships are available, one for an American and one for a Dutch student. The scholarship consists of roundtrip transportation and a stipend of $ 3,000 - $ 5,000; the exact amount depending on other sources of income of the student (student assistantship, student salary). Housing is at the expense of the recipient and to be arranged in consultation with the professor at the host university. While at the host university, the successful candidate is expected for a period of one semester to fulltime work on final project, theses or dissertation. Students may but are not required to take classes.

 

Application                                                                           

 

A joint application should be submitted by the student, the advising professor at the university where the student is enrolled and the professor at the host university. The application should consist of:

 

- A one page statement from the student including a non-technical description of the work that is contemplated, the reasons for applying for the scholarship, keeping in mind the objectives i.e. promoting the mutual understanding of the American and Dutch culture, and sources and amounts of income.

 

- A statement from the advising professor at the university where the student is enrolled that the student satisfies the eligibility requirements.

 

- A statement of the professor at the host university that a suitable workplace and if necessary a computer will be made available

 

- A CV of the student including outside interests and short CV’s of the two professors.

Application deadlines for 2006 scholarships is 1 January 2006. Final decision will be announced prior to February 1, 2006
